COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING COMMITTEE

The Town of LeRay's Comprehensive Plan is a vision for the future development of the Town.  This Plan is the policy foundation on which your community is built, providing a direction for the municipal Boards. A current Comprehensive Plan can improve applications for government and non-government assistance.

According to the American Planning Association, Community Planning is "a process that seeks to engage all members of the community to create a more prosperous, convenient, equitable, healthy, and attractive place for present and future generations." One of the most essential responsibilities of local government is to plan and prepare for the future growth and development of the community. A comprehensive plan provides a vision for the future of the community along with the steps that are needed to make that vision a reality. This involves thinking about how we move around our community, how we can attract and retain thriving business, where we want to live, and opportunities for recreation. Planning helps create communities of lasting value.

The elements of a comprehensive plan can consist of a study of existing conditions and a discussion of future trends, goals, and objectives. Land use patterns, housing conditions, population, roadways, and other infrastructure issues are usually the principle elements that are studied.

Throughout the entire comprehensive planning process, citizen input should be obtained, giving the citizens a say regarding the future of their community. Citizen input will help determine the goals and objectives of the plan.
