Transfer Site Operator
The LeRay Transfer and Recycling Center is here to help residents of the Town of LeRay dispose of their non-hazardous refuse and recyclable items in a safe and responsible manner. The Transfer and Recycling Center is owned and operated by the Town of LeRay and is open to all residents.
We accept bags or truckloads of household waste, including recyclable items. All waste must be paid for with transfer site tickets, which are available for purchase at the Town Clerk’s Office. Our Transfer and Recycling Center is committed to helping the community responsibly and safely dispose of non-hazardous waste and recyclable items.
Tires, Mattresses, and Box Springs are NOT accepted. These items can be taken to the Jefferson County Transfer Site.
When you recycle, it helps reduce pollution by saving on the costs to manufacture new materials and by cutting back on the pollutants released into the air by factories.
The Transfer and Recycling Center in the Town of LeRay is available to all town residents and accepts non-hazardous refuse, household waste, and recyclable items. Household waste can be paid for using transfer site tickets, which are exclusively sold at the Town Clerk's Office. These tickets are required to dispose of any household waste or non-hazardous refuse and cannot be purchased at the Transfer Site.

The purchased ticket has a face value of $10, $20, or $30 and can be used for multiple visits. The amount used on the ticket will be indicated by the Transfer Site Operator and returned to you for future use. The following is the fee schedule for household waste disposal:
$2.00
PER 30 Gallon Bag
$4.00
PER 55 Gallon Bag
$10.00
Couch
$6.00
Recliner & Over-Sized Chair
The Transfer Site also accepts household waste and refuse in bags, barrels, and by the pickup truck load, which can be paid for with transfer site tickets. However, larger amounts of waste and commercial haulers should make arrangements with the Jefferson County Transfer Site and Recycling Center on NYS Route 12 north of Watertown.
HOUSEHOLD WASTE
Electronic Equipment
At the Transfer Site, you can dispose of electronic equipment, rechargeable batteries, and single-use batteries. There are separate containers provided for each. Examples of electronic equipment include computers, TVs, monitors, VCRs, DVRs, keyboards, mice, fax machines, printers, scanners, and more. The accepted batteries include nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, sealed lead acid, nickel metal hydride, and single-use alkaline and lithium batteries, as well as any other dry cell battery that can be charged.

Currently, there is no fee for the disposal of electronic equipment and batteries at the Transfer Site due to a grant received by the Development Authority of the North Country.
For free and convenient electronic waste recycling options, please visit the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s website at https://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/66872.html.
